ATENEA AtDom – Generative AI to enhance home-based healthcare services

Innovation in home-based healthcare services: The ATENEA AtDom project

The main objective of ATENEA AtDom, through ATENEA WATCH technology, is to optimise the efficiency and services of the Home Care Program (ATDOM) of the Generalitat de Catalunya. This primary care program is based on continuous and integrated assistance, providing a core team of professionals who coordinate healthcare and social services for the patient.”

How does the technology work?
The initiative focuses on using a smartwatch equipped with sensors and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to continuously monitor the user. Its key functions include:

• Incident detection: It automatically identifies falls, health incidents or disorientation.
• Alert management: AI immediately notifies family members or emergency services when necessary.
• Voice assistance: The system initiates a voice conversation with the patient to calm him/her down and provide follow-up instructions (such as “sit down and wait for an ambulance”).

Social and technological impact
This solution aims to reduce healthcare pressure and hospital stays, especially among the elderly or dependent individuals. One of its added values is the integration of generative AI in Catalan, resulting from the collaboration with the AINA project. In this way, it ensures that technology is accessible and user-friendly, promoting the use of the language in the digital sphere while improving citizens’ quality of life.
